Vecchio Still Going Strong at 81

'Newsday' article profiles longtime Smithtown supervisor.

In his 35th year as supervisor of Smithtown, Pat Vecchio, 81, is showing no signs of slowing down, according to a Newsday article.

The feature on the man who is "the longest-tenured supervisor in Long Island history" states that many expect Vecchio to run again for supervisor next year, and includes perspectives from the Republican's supporters and detractors.

Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick, R-St. James, Hauppauge construction company owner Jack Kulka and former boxer Gerry Cooney stood behind Vecchio, pointing to his fiscal disclipline and strong character as reasons behind his longevity in political office.

Desmond Ryan, of Association for a Better Long Island, offered a different visual of Vecchio, calling the suervisor a "legend in his own mind." He recently wrote for the state of Smithtown's crumbling roadways, claiming the supervisor will be dead before they are fixed.
