Smithtown Town officials will be hosting a public hearing on a controversial senior assisted living facility in Smithtown.

Residents will have the opportunity to voice their concerns about Whisper Landing to Smithtown Board of Zoning Appeals at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Eugene Cannataro Senior Citizen Center in Smithtown. It is the second public hearing being held on this proposal.

St. Johnland Development Group have submitted revised plans for a proposed three-story facility on the northeast corner of River Heights Drive and Route 25a in Smitthown. It will have 110 units.

The developer is seeking five variances from the town to move forward with the project, including increasing the maximum building height from 2 1/2 stories to 3 stories and permitting environmentally sensitive land to be altered.

Residents have previously come out in opposition to the project stating it is too large and will have a heavy traffic impact on the surrounding neighborhood.
