Trotta Wins GOP Primary for Suffolk Legislature
Fort Salonga resident beats Paul Hennings and Mario Mattera to run for office in November.
A Fort Salonga resident has won the right to have his name on the ballot for Suffolk County Legislature this November.
Rob Trotta won the Republican primary for the 13th district of the Suffolk County Legislature receiving 2,259 votes over party-endorsed candidate Paul Hennings, who received 860 votes, and challenger Mario Mattera, who received 811 votes, according to Suffolk County Board of Elections.
Trotta, a political newcomer, ran a grassroots primary campaign in which he went door-to-door soliciting votes and speaking with local residents. He is a a detective for the Suffolk County police department with 25 years experience.
The Fort Salonga resident is also an advisory board member of the Nissequogue River State Park Foundation, a member of Kings Park Civic Association and Kings Park Neighbors Association.
Trotta said one of his key issues is improving residents quality of life and turning Kings Park Main Street, Smithtown Main Street and other similar areas of town into destinations to help increase sales and tax revenue.
He will run in November for the county legislative seat representing the new 13th district, which runs along the North Shore of Long Island from East Northport and Fort Salonga to Head of the Harbor area.
