Suffolk Notebook: Cops Increase DWI Patrols for Super Bowl Sunday

Six enhanced patrols to saturate the county, mobile Blood Alcohol Testing unit to be deployed to assist in making arrest.

Suffolk County law enforcement agencies will work together to increase DWI patrols this Super Bowl Sunday.

Suffolk County Stop DWI program announced it will be sending out six , separate enhanced patrols through out the county starting on Sunday afternoon to combat alcohol-related injuries and deaths.

Suffolk County Police Department, Suffolk County Sheriff's Office and the Suffolk County Parks Police will be conducting saturation patrols in various undisclosed locations through Western Suffolk County.

On the East End, the Riverhead Police, Suffolk County Deputy Sheriffs and state police will coordinate their efforts.

In addition to these patrols, the East End Task Force will deploy the Sheriff's Blood Alcohol Testing mobile unit along major roads and highways to assist in making arrests.

In 2010, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found 40 percent of fatal crashes on Super Bowl Sunday were related to drunken driving with alcohol contributing to a fatal accident every 52 seconds.

Suffolk Proposes Plan to Close Two Sex Offender Trailers

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone released a plan Thursday that could shut two controversial homeless sex offender trailers on the East End permanently.

Instead, the trailers will close and homeless sex offenders will be relocated to other county shelters -- with only one registered sex offender per facility. Law enforcement will be made aware of each individual and where they are living, with an eye toward enhanced monitoring and other community safeguards.

The closing of these two homeless sex offenders are one step in Bellone's eight-step plan to protect the community. Bellone's proposed plan also calls for address verification of the 1,016 sex offenders currently registered in Suffolk County through the Suffolk County Police Department.

According to Suffolk Legis. Jay Schneiderman, I-Montauk, the plan could go before the county legislature for a vote as soon as next week, with 12 votes required for it to pass.

Eugene...you left out Pennsyvania plates obtained fraudulently. Ahh, these wonderful illegals. Come on don't you know why they dont do it...cause they are better than us! You get your ass beat in a minority neighborhood, like I have countless times when I was younger the cop tells you you shouldn't be there. If an ahole Latino gets his ass beat for whatever reason by a white person the white guy goes to jail and receives double the sentence under hate crime laws enacted by our vote mongering Dem hacks. Hence they are better human beings than us according to these hacks. Did they ever hear of equal application of the law? Yes, but they dont care. Why no saturation by the cops for Texting while driving???????????? Studies show it is more dangerous than DWI and I agree. I see countless rear end accidents cause by texting. Nahh, the county hacks don't want to hear the screaming form the soccor moms and teachers racing to games or late for school with a mascara wand in one hand and the celly in the other. Gotta go, want to see the rioting in Eygypt. Hey Obam send them more fighter jets and RPGs to murder their own and us. Ooh, the Muslim Bros killed a leader in Tunisia.....good guys right Hill and Obam.

Hey SCPD. You dont even need to set up a road block to catch texters, just patrol at night or early morning in an unmarked and look for their faces lit up by the blue glow of the phone in their hand. Easy and may offset the crippling taxes you have imparted on hardworking folk who dont make near what you do. Novel approach, nahh just common sense. But our dear county hacks will never demand realistic salaries for the SCPD afterall, your votes put them in office when they protitute themselves for your votes in a quid pro quo for obscene salaries and bennies. A symbiotic relationship correct. Kind of like a parasite and a host(taxpayer)
