Roadwork on Pulaski and Old Commack Road to be Completed by Year-End

Roadwork, which began last summer is intended to repair sidewalks, curbs and pavement and drainage issues.

Roadwork will continue until the end of the year on Pulaski Road and Old Commack Road, which has some residents tacking on extra commuting time.

The work, which began last summer, is intended to repair sidewalks, curbs and pavement as well as address drainage problems, according to Bill Hillman, Chief Engineer for the Suffolk County Department of Public Works. The road is to be repaved as well.

“We keep one lane in each direction open at all times,” said Hillman.

The water main replacement is $1 million of an estimated $7.2 million County infrastructure improvement project extending along Pulaski Road from Larkfield Road in East Northport to 25A in Kings Park and funded partially with Federal money.

According to Hillman, about eighty-percent of the funding is provided by the federal government and twenty-percent is from Suffolk County. New curbs and sidewalks will be installed for pedestrians, which will also address drainage issues and upgrade asphalt and pedestrian crossings. Most homes along the route will also get new aprons and curbing.
