Public Hearing For Proposed Storage Facility on Old Northport Road

Smithtown Board of Zoning Appeals will host a public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

A Kings Park landowner's proposal to rent land on Old Northport Road to an outdoor storage facility will go before Smithtown Board of Zoning Appeals on Tuesday night.

Smithtown BZA will host a public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday for Kings Park residents and business owners to comment on pending plans for Mike Cox, the owner of Pioneer Paving,  to lease a portion of his Old Northport Road property to DWC Management, LLC for storage of up to 600 containers.

DWC Management, who currently operates Mini Mobile Storage of Long Island at 1158 Jericho Turnpike in Commack, is looking to stack up to 600 steel storage containers on the four-acre site, according to Trimarco. Containers would be stored two or three per stack, up to a possible height of 24 feet.

Under their application, DWC management asks the BZA for  a special exception permit for a trucking station on land zoned Light Industrial, two interpretations of own zoning code on the classification of commercial containers and 12 additional variance.

Kings Park Civic Association president Sean Lehman said he would have a hard time supporting the application as it is, calling for no buffer between the storage facility and surrounding properties.

The Smithtown Board of Zoning Appeals meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Eugene A. Cannataro Senior Citizen Center, 420 Middle Country Road in Smithtown.
