Request for Bids for Cell Tower at Callahan’s Beach on Town Board Agenda

Smithtown Town Board meets Thursday at 7 p.m.

The town board will discuss an authorization to advertise for a request for proposal to be returned to the town for a cell tower to be installed at Callahan’s Beach. The town has recently allowed towers to be built on town property including the town highway department and Smithtown Landing Golf Club.

“We are continuing putting some in public spaces to enhance police, fire and town communications,” said town councilman, Ed Wehrheim. “On all towers the town receives revenue from different wireless services.”

The board is also seeking to approve enabling the town attorney to approach the Office of the Governor to inquire about transferring 55 acres of land at the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center to the town. The board said at their Jan. 9 meeting that they would like to see additional space for recreation for local sports groups.
