PHOTOS: The Last Day the Smokestack Ever Stood

With dynamite set to level the Kings Park Psychiatric Center smokestack on Wednesday, we thought we'd take a few photos of this landmark's last day on Earth.

There was an eerie quiet on the grounds of the Kings Park Psychiatric Center on Tuesday: Call it the calm before the boom.

Small planes and helicopters flew overhead; a group of teens stopped to gawk at the center's smokestack. Meanwhile workers prepped the area for Wednesday, when state contractors will blow up the structure, removing it from the local skyline forever.
