NY Exchange Begins Sending Obamacare Coverage Approvals

While a series of computer glitches have made applying for health care a nightmare for people trying to sign up for coverage on Healthcare.gov, coverage is starting to trickle out for New Yorkers who have turned to the state's own website.

According to the Daily News, state health officials said thousands have recently received their coverage, set up through the state's new insurance exchange.

New York is one of 16 states in the country to set up its exchange, while other states have deferred to the federal site.

On Monday, President Barack Obama addressed the issues that have plagued Healthcare.gov, and said it may take a few weeks for government techies to fix the site.

"Nobody's madder than me about the fact the website isn't working as well as it should, which means it's going to get fixed," he said. "Everybody who wants insurance through the marketplace will get insurance. Period."

New York officials said about 150,000 people have signed up through the state exchange, and they have received no complaints about their system.

The delay between the application process and enrollment gives the state time to verify the information, officials said.
