Mayor: Parts of Port Jefferson Power System "Severely Damaged"

LIPA tells Mayor that it might be Wednesday or later in the week before power is restored.

I continue to receive calls from individuals struggling due to lack of electricity at their home and neighborhoods. Please be advised that the portion of Port Jefferson that is without power is serviced by a part of the system that is severely damaged.

LIPA is telling us that they hope to restore power by late Wednesday, but as they delve into this it may require additional time up to and including the following weekend (Nov. 10-11.)

The portion of the electrical system that is damaged also impacts parts of Mount Sinai and Terryville and crews are out working as best and quickly as they can.

Please, I know this is difficult, but please try and be patient and realize that aside from calling in your addresses, there is very little the village or the office of the Mayor can do about getting LIPA to move "quicker" or be more responsive.

Our Dept of Public works continues to work on debris removal, and we are now also gearing up for what may be a severe storm system moving in Wednesday/Thursday while conserving our gas consumption.

The Village Center is open for those of you who need warmth, and power.

Margot Garant is mayor of Port Jefferson Village.

Editor's note: Other facilities are also available for you to get warmth and power, including Comsewogue and Port Jefferson libraries.
