Elections Board Moves Kings Park Polling Place

Voters who normally vote at Park View Elementary will have to vote at the high school, after Hurricane Sandy damaged the elementary school's roof.

The Suffolk County Board of Elections on Friday said this week's assault by Hurricane Sandy has forced it to move a Kings Park polling place.

Voters in districts 27,29,44 and 72 who usually vote at Park View Elementary School should report to the Kings Park High School to cast their votes on Election Day, the BOE said.

Parkview suffered extensive damage to its roof from Hurricane Sandy, prompting administrators to move students to other schools in the district until the repairs are finished.

Engineers told the district it could take until December to fully repair the roof.

The BOE also said it is still assessing damages and the power situation at the polls, and as of Friday afternoon had made arrangements to move seven Suffolk polling places in communities including Oak Beach, Deer Park, Ocean Bay Park, Northport, Ocean Beach and Kings Park.

"We are doing everything possible to ensure that our elections will move forward as scheduled," election officials said in a statement.

The BOE added that absentee voting hours have been extended to Friday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., Sunday from from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and Monday from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m.
