Creighton, Vecchio Set Up Offices on Smithtown Main Street

Campaign season arrives early in the Town of Smithtown.

It appears as though campaign season has arrived early for Smithtown as Supervisor Patrick Vecchio and his challenger town Councilman Robert Creighton have stake out offices on Main Street well ahead of Republican primary for Smithtown's supervisor seat.

Vecchio's campaign signs were spotted in the windows of the vacant Cyrus Place restaurant on Friday, before the Smithtown Festival Day on Sunday.

"I'm going to rent that store," Vecchio said. "It's just not rented yet."

Not to be left behind, Creighton's campaign signs were posted in the former Oxford Learning Center on Monday. Except, his signs were not alone.

While Vecchio might have won an early victory becoming the GOP's designee, Creighton's signs were accompanied by signed for Republican councilman Kevin Malloy and Town Clerk Vincent Puleo, both running for re-election this November.

Creighton said he intends to rent the Oxford Learning Center storefront to serve as his first campaign headquarters - he's never needed one when running for town council.

"This is a different kind of race. It requires a lot of help," Creighton said.

The 3,000-square-foot former tutoring center is listed for rent at $4,000 a month, according to Zillow.

Interestingly enough, both supervisor candidates are renting Main Street storefronts after Creighton made a campaign issue out of number of buildings up for rent.

For now, the two rivals appear to have agreed on a temporary solution.

"We're trying to help the local economy," Creighton said in jest.
