With the general election coming soon on Nov. 6, the countdown to get registered to vote is on.
Smithtown residents who are not registered voters can register at Smithtown Town Hall.
According to the Suffolk County Board of Elections website, in order to register to vote, an individual must be a United States citizen; be 18 years old by December 31 of the year in which the form is filed -- and be 18 years old by the date of the general, primary, or other election in order to vote -- must have lived at their present address for at least 30 days before an election, not be in jail or on parole for a felony conviction, and not claim the right to vote elsewhere.
In addition an individual can register to vote in person at Suffolk County Board of Elections, the website states, or at any New York State Agency-Based voter registration center.
