Angie Carpenter Visits Chamber (VIDEO)

Meet the candidates event at the chamber starts with Carpenter, Bellone to be at October luncheon.

Republican candidate for Suffolk County executive, Angie Carpenter, made a stop at the Kings Park Chamber of Commerce luncheon last week.

The Suffolk County treasurer said she started her career in the Chamber of Commerce back in the 1970’s when she owned a typesetting business. Carpenter said she got involved with the chamber and would up as president for about four to five years.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, not only here but across America” Carpenter said to chamber members. “I don’t think government gives small businesses their due.”

Carpenter says government too often gets in the way of small businesses. According to Carpenter, the majority of the county budget comes from sales tax revenue.

“It’s got to be about our business community, we have to grow revenues. Too often the county does not operate like a business,” she said.
