Tree Trimmer Killed in Nissequogue

Thursday's death was the second tree-trimming accident in the past two weeks in Smithtown.

A South Carolina tree trimmer was killed on Thursday, according to Suffolk County Police, after a broken limb struck him in the head in Nissequogue.

Police said the man – 36-year-old David Freberg, of York, S.C. – was attempting to trim a fallen tree in the woods around 12:15 p.m. behind 42 James Neck Rd. Freberg was employed by Patriot Tree Service.

Thursday's accident was the second in the area in the past two weeks; last Tuesday, a Centereach man was killed when he was struck in the head while trimming trees behind the Hauppauge Palace Diner on Route 347 in Hauppauge.

The tree had fallen during last week's storm, according to police.

Freberg was transported to Stony Brook Hospital by Saint James Ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are investigating the incident.

Tree work is extremely dangerous at times especially after a storm. The workers are forced to deal with complicated situations but most alleays put their own safety first. Making every attempt to not damage a persons property. Tension from trees against other trees and gravity are fatal enemies when performing the work. Blessings to the family who suffers the loss of a loved one.
