Thomas Richardson Elected To Board of Fire Commissioners

Richardson will fill vacancy left by outgoing commissioner Paul Barattini.

Voters elected a new member to the five seat Board of Fire Commissioners on Tuesday evening.

Thomas Richardson of Kings Park received 483 of 642 votes cast beating out Louis Varialle and Andrew Menzies.

Menzies, who received 15 votes, had withdrawn from the race, but the withdrawal was too late and according to rules, his name was placed on the ballot. Varialle received 144 votes.

Richardson, who has spent 24 years with the Kings Park Fire Department as lieutenant and captain and 21 as a city firefighter said he is looking forward to continuing the work that the board has been doing.

"The board does a great job. I have been a city fireman for 21 years. Now I can add my expertise to that part of the board," said Richardson.

Voter turnout for this election was higher than last election where the total amount of votes cast was 355.

"I am very thankful to all the voters. It was a great turnout. We haven’t had one like that in long time," said Richardson. "It is a good feeling that the town came together."
