Police: Teen Arrested for Threat to Blow Up Kings Park High School Gym

The 16-year-old boy made a threat online that he had a bomb and was going to blow up the Kings Park High School gymnasium, police say.

A teenager has been arrested after making threats to blow up the Kings Park High School gymnasium via the social media network Twitter on Friday.

According to Suffolk County Police, third and fourth squad detectives investigated the complaint made by officials at Kings Park High School after a 16-year-old boy posted on Twitter indicating he had a bomb and was going to blow up the Kings Park High School gymnasium, referred to as the "Kingdome." The school officials said they were aware of comments being made on the social media network due to the the rivalry between the school and Islip High School.

The boy was charged with second-degree falsely reporting an incident, a misdemeanor, and is set to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.

School district officials decided prior to Friday's basketball game to bar student spectators from the game after the tweets were posted. According to Kings Park Superintendent Susan Agruso, the district made the decision to allow only members of the team at the game and their parents to avoid any further tensions.
