Kings Park Students Graduate From Police Youth Academy

Week long program introduces youth to police tactics and training.

Police pursuits, crime scene investigation and patrol tactics were all in a day's work for two local teens that recently completed a police training program.

Kings Park High School students, Shannon Boyle and  Matthew Walling, will graduate from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Youth Academy on Friday after spending a week in the specialized training program that familiarizes students with the role of a police officer.

Before graduating the program, students will put the skills they learned to the test during a timed police challenge obstacle course where the students run, climb a wall, drag a mannequin and handcuff a suspect.

This is the second class to graduate from the academy this year and includes 41 students from Suffolk County high schools who participated in five days of training in police operations and procedures including crime scene investigation, laws of arrest, patrol tactics, traffic enforcements and police pursuits.
