Grieving Mom Pleads for Action on Hit and Run Case

The mother of Kieran Smith, who was killed by Craig Perkins in a hit and run accident says justice has not been served.

The letter below was written by Maria Naclerio, mother of Kieran Smith who was killed last April in a hit and run accident. The driver, Craig Perkins, who left the scene of the accident and turned himself in three days later to police.  Perkins was charged with a felony crime of leaving the scene of an accident, and has remained free on $5,000 cash bail since last June.

To My Neighbors in Kings Park:

Amazingly, it is already a full year since Kings Park lost Kieran Smth at the hands of Mr. Craig Perkins.  As we are all aware, Mr. Perkins struck Kieran with his pick-up truck on the LIE on April 1, 2012, and abruptly left him on the side of the road to die.

More amazing than that is the fact that Mr. Perkins remains FREE ON BAIL after admitting to striking Kieran on that fateful night.  Mr. Perkins has had the ability to enjoy Christmas, New Years, Easter, Anniversaries, Birthdays, Summers and Winters, all while Kieran lies alone in a cold grave that Mr. Perkins put him in.  Craig Perkins has been in the "revolving door" of the justice system for over a year now, and even though admitting to his actions, he can walk among the rest of us a FREE MAN.

Kings Park...its time to get LOUD !  Please write to your local congressman, judicial system, law makers and let them know that this is WRONG.  Mr. Perkins prematurely put Kieran in a grave, and has yet to experience the loss of life and freedoms that he inflicted on Kieran.  In fact, he openly admitted to taking Kieran's life, and has yet to be punished in any form for his actions.  It is time for our community to take LEGAL action and put this man where he belongs, and prevent any possibility of him EVER DOING THIS AGAIN to anyone else.  It is repulsive that our judicial system's wheels turn this slowly.

Please take a stand and do what you can to make sure Mr. Perkins and people like him do not have the opportunity to harm anyone else, whether in our community or anywhere else.

Signed...a mother mourning her loss....
