The officers have ,entioned that they suspect certain high school students. It's so sad to think that our own children are behind such senseless acts. Please keep watch for both you and your neighbors and speak up if you see something. It's time for this to end.

There are a few groups of KP teens that wandering the streets at night...I have tried to scare them away and called the cops on them several times this past summer. I had to seriously restrain myself a few times to not beat the piss out of them!!!! These cocky kids know that they are going to get away with whatever, cause if you lay a hand on them you'll be in jail. The cops never come in time and look at you like your an idiot or you did something wrong...maybe those nights I interrupted their donut break....Why are there so many transient teens in KP these days??? Don't parents care about their children anymore or teach them to respect other people's property... I have to admit that I myself wandered around KP drunk with friends a few times when I was in my teens, but never did we think about damaging people's property, and if someone yelled at us we ran like hell...These morons yell back and throw rocks at your house and then crack another beer and pop another pill...The other night at Pulaski 7-11 there were a few teens in there doing whippets right at the coffee counter...not caring that there was a store full of people..That reminds me never to use the whip cream at 7-11 again, especially since they were sticking the nozzles up their noses....anyway, just wish people would wonder where there children are at 2am on a Friday night...if they're not home, they're up to no good...

KPNibbler - you pose a great question - why are there so many transient teens in KP these days? We have gotten some reports at Kings Park in the kNOw about packs of teens and the vandalization of fences etc. I might be old school but my teens were not allowed out during the school week and not allowed to walk the streets (they had to be in a location and I did check up). We can't solve the youth vandalism or drug problem unless there is some parental responsibility!

My neighborhood has 2 houses (both corner properties) that have both been hit repeatedly....we're talking 4 to 5 times. They both have (had) beautiful vinyl fences. The one neighbor lives behind us and we share a side street with nothing but a sump. It (the street) hosts ALOT of "hang out" activity. We have witnessed drug/cash exchanges in broad day light, sexual inappropriateness, loud and vulgar language, bottle breaking, littering, needles, condoms and empty drug bags in the street, etc. etc. This has been going on for YEARS!!!!!!!!! After calling the police many many times to have them either show up too late or not at all we basically have learned to "live with it"....how sad! Our 10 yr. old is not allowed in the backyard without one of us because of this situation. I agree wt you KPNibbler....they are so cocky and brazen that it is frightening. The 7-11 whippet thing is just too disgusting. I too grew up here in KP, but NEVER defaced anyone's property, nor did the crew I "hung out" with. Honestly, if an officer spent even a short period of time posted on the street I am referring to he/she could give out their monthly quota of tickets in a heartbeat, just by witnessing all the cars that blow the stop sign. They don't just roll through it they SPEED through it. Needless to say, our child does not ride a bike, skateboard or scooter in this neighborhood (nor dos anyone elses) ....we go elsewhere for that. Done venting, but will continue to carry a heavy heart.

suggestion..bring it to the attention of your newly re-elected town council, with the cost of living her,one should be able to enjoy their own property and neighborhood.why wait for a serious incident?

I wish the authorities were the answer, but unfortunately they are not..Responsibility rests solely on the parents. It seems that parent's today give their kids cell phones, send them out into the world and think that that's keeping them from doing stupid things but in reality cellphones and Facebook enable them. I also think too much energy is spent making things taboo, like drugs and alcohol, instead of teaching kids to be responsible. Should kids be doing these things, no, but the more adults tell them not to the more likely they will want to do it.Seriously,Look at the latest news reports of kids using vodka soaked tampons and rectally funneling beer.Kids are getting dumber because parents aren't taking the time to actually parent them.Teens need to be taught responsibility, respectability and given consequences for their actions...I came from a single parent family, my mother knew she couldn't watch me 24-7, but she found the time to teach me responsibility, respectability and explain consequences to me.She taught me how to think and make decisions. When I compare myself to friends that I grew up with, who's parent's coddled them, gave them no responsibly and over protected them, there is a stark difference in out come. Most of them are alcoholic drug addicts on their third marriage.Who knows what the right answer is, and truthfully every child is different, but one thing is for sure, these kids vandalizing their own town need a serious beating along with their parents!!!

My fence was damaged last Halloween weekend by teenagers hanging out on my street, a party was going on unattended by an adult. I called the police, filed a report...NOTHING WAS done...had to repair it on my own!

totally agree, responsibility lies with parenting...but bviously this is failing in many cases, therefore, the fact being that there is illegal activity taking place, alittle shake-up from law enforcement can't hurt.once legal fees are incurred, perhaps parents will wake upor perhaps not.but we do have one of the highest paid police force in the country,so ake them work!if this is how the town needs them, then that should be their focus, because if you can't get a bunch of spoiled brats under control, how can you control more serious criminal activity?as for not being able to control drug activity in smithtown, one may ask why do we keep electing the same useless politicians and this starting at the top!
SHUT UP KP January 15, 2012 at 04:30 AM

So apparently you can't read or write. You taking Heroine??? Ok little moron, if you payed an ounce of attention, maybe you would learn something.First off I never said all kids that roam the streets did these things. In fact, I clearly stated the opposite. I spent many nights between the ages of 15-18 wandering KP, drinking in the woods and smoking weed. However, I was taught responsibility and to be respectful of others property. Again if you paid attention, I said parents shouldn't coddle their children, but they also shouldn't ignore them and should discuss things like drugs and alcohol.I don't agree with making things taboo, but actually giving kids the facts and letting them make their own choice..Lastly, and again because you have serious A.D.D. and didn't read my post in it's entirety, I said funneling alcohol into your anus, like many moronic kids do, was stupid, not funneling beer like a normal human being.I think the ages of 16-22 should be full of experimenting, but if you're not smart enough or mature enough, you do stupid things or end up dead. I don't have kids, and could careless what other people's children do as long as it doesn't effect me or my property...So SHUT UP KP, stay in school and keep practicing your spelling and grammar.Stop doing whip-its cause its dumb.Writing in CAPS shows your ineptitude, work on that.Don't wander the streets drunk, you may get run over..while I would careless, you're mom probably takes enough Valium and painkillers as it is.

You need to place a 2" X 4" horizontally across each segment of the fence. Put it at about 3' and fasten it tightly at each end. I painted mine white to match the fence. Then when the little b@#$%*$d hits the fence the cops [if they have the time], can pick him up at the ER.
