Ronkonkoma Man Turns Himself In Following Fatal Hit-and-Run

Craig Perkins, 53, of Ronkokoma turned himself into the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office on Wednesday and offered a not guilty plea.

A 53-year-old Ronkonkoma man turned himself into county officials on Wednesday, and offered a plea of not guilty, in relation to leaving the scene of the fatal accident which left a Kings Park man dead.

According to Robert Clifford of the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, Craig Perkins, accompanied by his attorney, turned himself in to the district attorney's office, where he was questioned by police and prosecutors and admitted his involvement in the

According to police, Smith was driving a 2008 Nissan on the Long Island Expressway when his vehicle became disabled. Smith left his vehicle and was walking on Express Drive South when he was apparently struck and killed by a car, whose driver fled the scene.

A passing motorist discovered Smith’s body on the shoulder and called police at 7:45 a.m. Sunday, police said.

According to the D.A.'s office, Perkins is cooperating in the ongoing investigation. His vehicle, a 2010 Ford pickup, is being inspected by analysts at the Suffolk County Crime Lab.

Smith was laid to rest Thursday, following a blessing at St. Joseph's Church, at Commack Cemetary.

Tragic tragic tragic. Lawyers should have a conscious! Perkins DID NOT do "all the right things". You know when you hit someone.....you know!!!! Damage to his monster truck will prove what a thoughtless, careless, low-life person he is!! How does it take a person hours to contemplate doing the right thing. Mr Perkins did not think about what was right. Just what was right for himself.

Rose, that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. This isn't CSI on television, this is the real world. "Tracking the truck's mileage"? Impossible. Mileage varies every single time you start your vehicle. Mileage varies with weight, traffic, air pressure & outside temperature. One would have to duplicate the exact barometric pressure & temp at the exact moment the boy was hit. Pure fantasy. How many gas stations, bars & liquor stores are on Long Island? How many of them have surveillance cameras? How many of those cameras still work? Track his credit cards? Nonsense! What if he paid cash? Do you have any idea what it would take to track down every single empty liquor bottle on the side of every single road of every single route this man could've taken? Like I said, this isn't television...

First off, any reason why you have to act like this? Star Trek re-runs? Really? That's going to be your answer? To belittle & berate me? Does that make you feel better? Does that make you feel superior to me? Makes you look like a child. How old are you exactly? Yeah okay, just punch all that info into your magic NCIS computer & voila! Within 22 minutes, the case is solved, right? You people watch way too much television. You do realize that television isn't real right? Not even Jersey Shore... "WE" do that all the time? Of course you do. And I'm the Lord High Grand Poobah of Jupiter. Yeah of course, they have all that in Eatons Neck, where the NIMBY'S keep everybody but the Cadillacs out. Secondly, if I knew they wouldn't delete this post immediately, I'd tell you where you can put that phaser... And lastly, just the fact that you THINK I'd be on this monster's side is enough for me to want to smack you. Personally, I vote pubic stoning for this guy if he's found guilty. How can anyone think for one moment, "Hey I think I hit someone! Eh, whatever, I'll decide later if I feel like calling the Police". That "story" alone tells me he's guilty as sin & deserves to be some gorilla convict's wet nurse. So turn your smug off. You're not half as educated as you think you are...

Oh c'mon Cat. Search the roadside for empty liquor bottles? Calculate his gas mileage? Gimme a friggin break. Ridiculous...

Ok, I don't usually lose my temper but enough is enough! John and LCDR, please STOP acting like children! Both of you have caused trouble on the articles you comment on and I am tired of it. You make the entire comment thread about you and your arguing and take away the point of the article! Kings Park is deeply saddened by the loss of someone who, I personally barely knew but nevertheless, was loved and will be greatly missed. Please please PLEASE grow up.

YOU HAVE ANGERED THE THE GRAND HIGH EXALTED GRAND POOBAH! MAY THE RAINS OF A THOUSAND DAYS FALL UPON YOUR OPEN CONVERTIBLE TOP! Tell ya what, Rose. Let's just agree to disgree & leave it at that. I'm really not looking for an internet argument. Like KP Student said, this isn't the time or place for it. So here's me offering up my olive branch, okay? Truce?
KP Student April 06, 2012 at 10:32 PM
It really saddens me that you, a grown man, spends his time arguing with teenagers on a small town news site.
John from Kings Park April 06, 2012 at 11:02 PM
Truce, dude. Truce. I don't want to argue with you. It's not going to get us anywhere...

Craig Bradley Perkins should put himself in the shoes of not only Kieran, but Kieran's parents. I know he has a son who is about 15. What if that were his son, would he want to here that the SOB who hit his son and left him there to die alone like he was a piece of garbage waited 3 days so he could sober up and turn himself in... Mr Perkins needs to own up to what he really did and stop listening to his lawyers. Karma my friends, it can really be something to think about...
