A 53-year-old Ronkonkoma man turned himself into county officials on Wednesday, and offered a plea of not guilty, in relation to leaving the scene of the fatal accident which left a Kings Park man dead.

According to police, Smith was driving a 2008 Nissan on the Long Island Expressway when his vehicle became disabled. Smith left his vehicle and was walking on Express Drive South when he was apparently struck and killed by a car, whose driver fled the scene.
A passing motorist discovered Smith’s body on the shoulder and called police at 7:45 a.m. Sunday, police said.
According to the D.A.'s office, Perkins is cooperating in the ongoing investigation. His vehicle, a 2010 Ford pickup, is being inspected by analysts at the Suffolk County Crime Lab.
Smith was laid to rest Thursday, following a blessing at St. Joseph's Church, at Commack Cemetary.
