Crimes Nearby: String of Three Burglaries in Port Jeff

The following arrest information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

PORT JEFFERSON

Jose Anster, 33, of Coram, was arrested on June 2 at a residence on Old Town Road in Port Jefferson Station, and was charged with second-degree assault, a felony. Police said Anster swung a knife at another man and caused injuries to his head and neck, sending him to Mather Hospital. Anster also faces charges of second-degree forgery for allegedly having a fake government document. He was held on $60,000 bond or $30,000 cash bail.

Police arrested a Port Jefferson Station man whom they said was intoxicated when he was involved in two accidents on Jarvin Road. Henri Jimenez, 32, allegedly hit two other vehicles at around 9:30 a.m. and left the scene, then pulled into his own driveway on Jarvin Road. Police charged him with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. According to court records, Jimenez posted $1,000 bail and is due back in court in August.

Steven Froehlich, 39, of Port Jefferson Station, was arrested on June 4 at his home and charged with fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor. According to a police report, he illegally had a revolver in his possession. A police spokesperson could not say why police had been called to Froehlich's home or why the revolver was considered illegal. According to court records, Froehlich posted $500 cash bail and is due back in court in August.

Suffolk County police are investigating three burglaries reported last week in the greater Port Jefferson area.
A resident of Dewey Street in Port Jefferson Station reported that someone broke a window and stole a TV and other electronics sometime between 6 p.m. on June 4 and 7:35 a.m. on June 5.
On June 4, a resident of Midland Avenue in Port Jefferson reported that someone damaged a rear window to enter the house and stole jewelry and money between 5:15 and 8:15 p.m.
On June 5, a resident of Old Post Road in Port Jefferson reported that someone entered the house through a rear door and stole jewelry between 8 and 8:30 a.m.
Additionally, on June 6, a resident of Dogwood Road in Port Jefferson reported that a screen on a back window was torn sometime between 2 and 4:30 p.m., though it is unclear if it was an attempted burglary.
A police representative said Tuesday that the investigations are ongoing.

MILLER PLACE

A Miller Place man is facing charges after entering and burglarizing a house by pretending to be a police officer and brandishing a pistol, according to police.

According to Suffolk County police, Michael Rifici, 37, of Miller Place, went into the house on Broadway in Rocky Point on Dec. 15, 2012, displayed a pistol, and claimed that he was a police officer. He then stole money from the victims, though police did not provide the amount.

Rifici was arrested at his house on June 4 and was charged with first-degree burglary, a felony, criminal impersonation, a misdemeanor and resisting arrest, also a misdemeanor. Police said Rifici tried to lock himself inside, then tried to run away from police, refusing multiple commands to stop.
