Crimes Nearby: Cop Avoids Collision With Impaired Driver

The following arrest information was supplied by the Suffolk County Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

Suffolk County police reported the following information:

Smithtown

Shandi Groom, 25, of Centereach was arrested Jan. 17 in Smithtown and charged with petit larceny. Groom is accused of stealing clothing and sneakers from Macy's at the Smith Haven Mall.

Christopher Capolino, 22, of Smithtown was arrested Jan. 14 in Smithtown and charged with seventh degree possession of a controlled substance. Capolino was in the parking lot of Avalon Gardens when he was approached by police and allegedly found to be in possession of an illegal substance.

Pat Toomey, 29, of St. James was arrested Jan. 12 in St. James and charged with second degree menacing. Toomey is accused of holding a knife to another person on Main Street in Smithtown on Dec. 31 and making a demand.

Paul Hylton, Jr., 20, of Central Islip was arrested Jan. 11 in Smithtown and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. He is accused of possessing the drug in a 2002 GMC.

Three Village

Michael Cinarella, 43, of East Setauket, was arrested Jan. 15 at about 12:00 p.m. and charged with first-degree operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs. He was traveling on Lower Sheep Pasture Road in a 2009 GMC when he reportedly crashed into another car and fled the scene. Shortly thereafter, he crossed over a center line, nearly hitting a police car head-on and causing the officer to swerve off the road to avoid a collision, according to a report.

Hauppauge

Julio Crespo, 37, of Islandia, was arrested Jan. 14 in Islandia and charged with DWI with a previous conviction in the last ten years. Police said Crespo was arrested at the Suffolk Avenue and Route 111 intersection after he crashed while travelling eastbound Suffolk Avenue in a 2006 Ford at 12:03 a.m.

Michael Prast, 30, of Islandia, was arrested Jan. 14 in Islandia and charged with DWI with a previous conviction in the last ten years. Prast was stopped while driving a 2006 Ford north on Split Cedar Avenue for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident.

William Byrus, 19, and Thomas Schoen, 20, both of Hauppauge, were arrested Jan. 14 in Smithtown and charged with unlawful possession of marijuana. They were seated in a 2008 Acura on Oakside Road at the time of the arrest, according to police reports.

Lamar Williams, 31, of Bellport, was arrested Jan. 14 in Hauppauge and charged with false impersonation. Police said Williams was driving a 1996 Honda Accord west on Express Drive North near Lincoln Avenue at 10:30 p.m. when he was stopped for speeding. He is accused of giving a false name to police officers, according to reports.

Christian Jordan, 19, of Bellport and Jesse Campo, 19, of Patchogue, were arrested Jan. 13 in Hauppauge and charged with disorderly conduct. Police said Jordan and Campo were fighting in a parking lot at Silk night club on Route 347. Jordan is also accused of fighting with the club's staff members, according to police reports.

Frank Kiernan, 47, of Seaford, was arrested Jan. 12 in Hauppauge and charged with first offense DWI. Kiernan allegedly struck a utility pole on Old Willets Path in a 2010 Chevrolet at 2:53 a.m. 

Bernell Wiggins, 24, of Ronkonkoma, was arrested Jan. 11 in Hauppauge and charged with seventh-degree possession of a controlled substance. Wiggins was arrested at 2:20 p.m. near 77 Veterans Memorial Highway, according to police reports.

Commack

Luis Chavez, 45, of Brentwood was arrested Jan. 18 in commack and charged with first offense DWI. Reports indicate Chavez was driving a Toyota Tundra east on Vanderbilt Motor Parkway when he was stopped for allegedly failing to maintain his lane.

Eric Gringhaus, 25, of Massapequa was arrested Jan. 12 in Commack and charged with first offense DWI. He was allegedly driving eastbound on Route 454 at 11:45 p.m. when he struck another vehicle in a westbound lane. He was taken to Huntington Hospital.
