Cops: Ex-Con Stole From Dollar Store, Fled Police

Police said Sylvayne Sigmon, a Kings Park resident, was arrested in Central Islip after fleeing police.

An ex-convict and Kings Park resident was arrested on a handful of charges on March 14 after he reportedly stole a bottle of detergent from a Family Dollar store and proceeded to take someone's car to flee police.

According to Suffolk County Police, Sylvayne Sigmon, 43, stole from a store in Central Islip around 10:05 a.m. Police said he proceeded to drive a 2005 Kia Sedona – which he did not have permission to drive – eastbound on Cliff Street while a squad car attempted to pull him over.

Police said Sigmon was later pursued on foot and ran into a fence, breaking it, and through a rear yard on Earle Street around 11 a.m.

He was arrested on charges of petty larceny, criminal possession of a controlled substance, aggravated unlicensed operation, resisting arrest, unauthorized use of a vehicle, criminal mischief, and unlawful fleeing of a police officer.

According to the New York State Department of Corrections, Sigmon previously served 19 months in Governeur Correctional Facility between 2008 and 2010 after being convicted of attempted sale of a controlled substance in the third degree.

Within the past year, online court records show Sigmon has pleaded guilty to criminal contempt, possession of crack, and two separate petty larceny charges. He also has an outstanding petty larceny charge in relation to a February incident.

Online court records show that he remains held on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond, and is due back in court on April 3.
