Map: Do Veterans Live in More Impoverished Parts of Town?

With Veterans Day approaching, Patch is looking at the lives of veterans across town. The map above shows a snapshot of the percentage of families living below the poverty line and the percentage of veterans there.

The relationship between veterans and poverty is complex. Nationally, poverty among veterans is half that compared to the general public. But when vets fall through the cracks, they can fall hard. 

Map: Do Veterans Live in High-Earning Areas?

With Veterans Day approaching, Patch is looking at the lives of veterans across town. The map above shows a snapshot of the median household income and the percentage of veterans living there.

Nationally, veterans appeared to be faring better than most civilians during the recovery - at least in earnings. The median income for male veterans was at $35,725 and at $30,540 for female veterans. Compare that to civilian males and females which were $30,822 and $20,634 respectively.

Map: Where Do the Most People from Out of State Live?

Nationally, the rate of people moving to another state increased to 12.0 percent in 2012 from a record low of 11.6 percent in 2011. Those numbers might go up as a recent survey shows one in three Americans are willing to move, hoping of find a better job market or a lower cost of living than where they are now.
