Drugs abuse in Kings Park

Wake up to drug abuse in Kings Park. It's right under your nose

Parents,

Don't think it can't be your kids or your kids friends or in your schools or your own home.  It is.  Talk to your kids, drug test them sporadically and don't be an offender yourself.  Show your kids and the community you care.  Check out the Kings Park in the Know web site for help and information.                                   http://www.kpintheknow.org/

I prefer to TRUST my child with the knowledge I have given him rather than betray that trust by drug testing him like he's a prisoner. By drug testing your children, you're basically telling them that you will never trust them to make the right decisions & don't believe anything they say to you. Here's a better idea. TEACH THEM RIGHT FROM WRONG. Be a parent. Be a friend. Don't be a warden.

How about getting rid of the crack heads renting the house on Church St across from the library.

You TRUST your kids. You TEACH your kids. You don't TEST your kids. A GOOD parent, an HONEST parent who teaches his/her child the same shouldn't have any reason to not trust his/her child. Testing your child simply tells him/her that you have no faith or trust in that child to do the right thing. One with no trust in others is usually not trustworthy themselves...

You're reading way too far in between the lines. I'm not accusing you of anything. Simply stating a quote my Grandfather used to say about trustworthyness. If you want to take it the wrong way, that's your prerogative...

Good? More like Goodie Two-Shoes! I think you miss the point entirely. It's not your place in this world to tell others what to do to themselves. No man, woman or child has any right to tell anyone else what to do to themselves. Most of the perceived harms from drugs, are because of people sticking their noses where they don't truly belong (even though they THINK they belong there). Your "warning to parents" is nothing more then a selfish attempt at making yourself feel superior than others, by pointing at a life-style choice in society and claiming "it's bad mmmmkay". In truth it makes you no better then a gay basher, like the westboro baptist church or any other hate group that can't just accept other peoples choices for themselves. By no means am I saying children should do drugs. I'm saying allot of the norms surrounding peoples opinions on drugs are backwards and misinformed. Such as the notion that we must be "hard on drugs and drug users", as if that harsh treatment is going to "learn them a lesson".

There is a lot of parents between the ages of 30-50 that are taking these drugs themselves. Keep the kids away from the addicts. Parents - stop taking all of those oxy pills and sleep aids and maybe you can help your own kids.

Dan & John don't you think your being a little rough on Karen? We all have different opinions and thoughts, that's what makes the world go round. If she feels drug testing her kids is what will help them NOT become a statistic that is her prerogative. I happen to completely agree with that. Adults are not perfect and continually make the wrong decisions and choices at least our children have us, and hopefully the community to help them not make the wrong choices. Yes we can teach them and guide them but that is not enough. Alcoholism and drug addiction is life destroying diseases. I for one will do whatever it takes to prevent anyone from going down that path. Being well educated In the field and witnessing first hand how ONE bad high can destroy or kill you I URGE the community to do anything it takes to protect our children. As a mother of four I don't feel Karen is being a 'goody two shoes' or thinks she is better than anyone else, she is trying to help.. It's people with the 'my kids have rights' or ' I trust my kids' that are making a huge mistake..it's unfortunate that more people are not on board with taking extreme measures to keep their kids substance free. Let my kids think I don't trust them be the worst problem they ever have to deal with.

KingsParkKid : I don't believe I did or said anything to Karen that should be considered "harsh". I did not call her any names nor did I insult her in any way. I simply stated my opinion on her article. I'm not responsible for the way she takes what I have to say...

If everybody would stop responding to JOHN K MASSARO posts then hopefully he will go away and the Patch would become a better place. We all know his story he does not live in KP but he is moving back. For a person who has so many negative comments about our town and schools why does he want to come back? Step away from the keyboard John and attend a board meeting and speak your opinions. John please don't try fishing another comment from me because I am not biting.

Good luck with that, Chris. Often deleted, never defeated...

Okay. And again, there's nothing I can do about that. I can simply state what I meant & leave the rest up to you...
