A local lawyer is among the 22 winners of the New York State Bar Association's 2012 President's Pro Bono Service Awards.
Barry Smolowitz of Kings Park launched the Suffolk County Pro Bono Foreclosure Settlement of the Nassau/Suffolk Law Services Committee, where homeowners subject to a residential foreclosure filing can receive free legal consultation.
Smolowitz, of the Law Office of Barry M. Smolowitz, recruited and trained volunteers and later supervised their work at settlement conferences. He also designed a special website, which includes forms, laws and an attorney forum.
