Video: Red Fox Storing Food

This Red Fox is doing something known as caching, storing food to be eaten later.

There was much interest and some great feed back on the Kings Park Focus on Nature blog about Red Foxes. So I'm making available some excellent photographs and video submitted by Focus on Nature blog readers Luci Betti Nash and Stephen Nash. These are some really nicely detailed photos of these amazing canines. The video shows a fox engaged in "caching" activity. This is a habit which I detailed in the last blog, in which foxes will store food to be eaten later.

Another reader commented that he was familiar with the den site I described, and remembers it as being in that location from his childhood - decades ago! I think that is a fascinating observation. It is anecdotal information like that from casual observers out enjoying nature which adds to our overall knowledge base. It does not nessecarily require a scientific study to reveal the secrets of nature - just a keen eye and a willingness to learn natures lessons.

See you on the trails!

Apparently you are not the only one this is happening to. From what I understand if these signs areRead More on a main drag somehow they are disappearing in the middle of the night. Hmmm, now I wonder who or what organization could be doing this illegal act? I'm not going to make an educated guess who could be involverd in this deed but I think if Kings Parkers do some research they are smart enough to figure out who does not want the real facts of the "Uplands Project" to come to light. Displaying these signs is a way of making the public aware of the atrocity of this project. Questions will then be asked. Making a night run to remove them is, at the least, a cowardly act that should be publicized every time it occurs!

That's funny, I spend a small fortune for school supplies for my kids. I am also asked to buy extraRead More for the kids who don't have., which I gladly do. The "society letting kids down" comment is a little over the top!!
