Has West Nile Got You Worried?

Mosquitoes testing positive for the potentially deadly virus are being found across the region.

West Nile is , and on Thursday county officials announced that 46 additional mosquito samples in Suffolk County tested positive for the virus. Affected mosquitos have been found as far east as Mattituck on the North Fork.

In South Shore communities, and in the Huntington area, spraying is underway to control the mosquito population, and there is no word yet on whether the county plans to spray on the North Shore of Suffolk.

According to the county, most people infected with West Nile virus will experience mild or no symptoms, but some can develop symptoms such as high fever, coma, tremors, convulsions, muscle weakness, vision loss, numbness and paralysis.

So, with so many mosquitos testing positive, we're wondering what steps locals are taking to protect themselves and their families.

Let us know in the comments.

people who don't vaccinate their kids are putting others at risk and they're to ignorant to realize it. It is their right not to but they have to consider the well-being of those around you

Just to clue the clueless, adult the adult vaccination percentage is insanely far worse than the child vaccination percentage. The percentage is only in the 20% range: http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/stats-surv/default.htm Now when you're done throwing the children under the bus maybe it's about time you get your wussy ass off to the doctors to get vaccinated. I can't stand these panzies that complain about children not being vaccinated when they aren't even vaccinated themselves. Maybe you think you're special and don't spread disease?

it's also a fact that kids are in schools with a high volume of people making transmitting very likely and the fact that their immune systems in the younger ones are not as strong as others. Most if not everyone should be vaccinated

autism,pets getting cancer, breast cancer,nuerological diseases ....keep spraying Long island ..and the stats will only get better

[start sarcasm] Yes, don't take any measures at all. It's much better to allow some child with an underderveloped immune system an or elderly adult with a compromised immune system to fall victim to West Nile viral infection. [/end sarcasm}
