Vietnam Veteran Receives 'Long Overdue' War Medals

A Kings Park veteran accepted war medals for his actions taken more than a decade ago.

Frank DeAngelo received war medals from Rep. Tim Bishop, D-Southampton, for his service with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war at a a ceremony in the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Garden at Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Times of Smithtown reports. 

DeAngelo was a tank commander in the Army's 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. He and his unit patrolled up and down the Ho Chi Minh Trail that ran between North Vietnam and South Vietnam.

"[It] was a very exciting time in my life," DeAngelo told Times of Smithtown. "There was always something going on."

He was one of four individuals who received medals, with two medals being awarded posthumously.
