The Foundation is recruiting volunteers to help with the
clean-up efforts. Middle School, High
School students and adults are encouraged to volunteer. Students will be provided a letter confirming
their community service and every volunteer will receive a free tee-shirt. The clean-up will start on the shore line
along the Nissequogue River and move south through other parts of the
Park.
All Long Islanders are also invited to join the Nature Hike
at 12:30pm. This hike will focus on the
amazing variety of trees in the park.
This trail progresses from one tree to another and will include a wide
variety of both indigenous and non-native trees. The program will guide users through the
trail and identify each tree on the trail.
The Tree Trail Nature Hike is free and will start at 12:30pm and end at
1:15pm by the front entrance to the Administration Building of the Park. No registration is necessary.
The
Community Quilt Squares workshop will continue the amazing work of our local 3rd
and 4th grade students in creating a Community Quilt. The Community Quilt features pre-manufactured white fabric squares
that participants decorate in a wide variety of ways. Completed squares are all tied together and
hung in the NRSP Administration Building museum area and conference room for public viewing during the months of May and June. Prizes will be awarded to First, Second, and
Third place entries.
Volunteers for the clean-up can register by calling
516-437-4000 or visit www.ptny.org and
register online. There is no
registration necessary for the Nature Hike or the Community Quilt Squares
event.
