Week in Review: Man Missing in Caleb Smith Park Since Labor Day is Found

New York State Park Police found Dr. Jerome Nadler, 76, of Setauket, a fisherman who went missing on Labor Day at Caleb Smith State Park Preserve.

According to Park Police Sgt. Daniel Lammers, Nadler was found Thursday as a result of the continuing search and brought to Stony Brook University Hospital for evaluation.

Just in time for the start of the school year, New Beginnings childcare center has opened its doors and is ready for business.

The center operates in the space left vacant by New Discovery childcare back in June. Owner Sylvia Bastone and staff were on hand Tuesday putting in some last minute touches, setting up new furniture and welcoming children from the Kings Park School District for the before and after care school program.

As young veterans return from Afghanistan and Iraq to Long Island, one local resident has seen them fall prey to depression, substance abuse and even homelessness.  

Commack native and long time Kings Park resident Jackie DeLeonardis knows these problems all too well. She is the vice president of United Veterans Beacon House, a local non-profit started by Vietnam Veterans, that first opened its doors in Suffolk in 1994 and has since grown to twenty-four locations throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

Following the exposure of an where cardboard and paper were exchanged for under-the-counter cash payments, the Town of Smithtown is seeking to terminate its contract with Jody Enterprises and press charges against the company.

The town is also set to take legal action against its surety, Platte River Insurance Company.

Despite the proposition of a compromise, residents and business owners will remain in dispute about the future zoning of Townline and Old Northport Road for a little longer.
