Kings Park Man to Run Half-Marathon for Sandy Hook Community

Resident Jason Fried was devastated when he heard about the children and community members killed at Sandy Hook Elementary school last Friday, prompting him to join 'Ryan's Team,' started by a former Sandy Hook Elementary School student in the hopes of raising $50,000 to assist with funeral costs and counseling for victims' families and survivors at the school.

Fried, a father of four, was born in Kings Park and moved back to his original home last year recently got back into running. His dad was a track coach in Roslyn for many decades.

Kings Park F.D. Sound Alarms for Newtown Victims Friday Morning

On the one week anniversary of the Newtown school shooting, vigils and various acts of remembrance for the victims were held, such as the ringing of church bells, in communities around the nation.

Kings Park Department chose to take part in the national commemoration with other local fire departments to sound their sirens 6 times on Friday at 9:45 a.m.
