An online petition by a thirteen-year-old boy has been started to stop the second phase of demolition at the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center so that historic buildings can be preserved.

Historic Fort Salonga Home on Market for $1.15 Million

A historic Fort Salonga estate once owned by Consuelo Vanderbilt and the Duchess of Marlborough, has gone on the market for $1.15 million dollars.

The estate was once owned by Lily, Duchess of Marlborough who later gifted the home to Consuelo Vanderbilt, who married her stepson, the 9th Duke of Marlborough, Charles Richard John Spencer-Churchill. Lily gave the home to them as a wedding gift.

Kings Park/Smithtown Sewer Project Stalled

An attempt to secure state funding for a sewage treatment project thorugh a Community Funding Application has been denied according to Legis. John M. Kennedy Jr. who spoke at last week’s chamber of commerce meeting in Kings Park.

“We are still viable, pursuing and taking the local steps we can to be able to, when we can... to access the federal funding that we need.”

American Flag Commemorating 9/11 at High School Stolen

A large American flag, hung on the front of Kings Park High School has been stolen.

The flag, which was hung to commemorate 9/11, was "taken down without authorization", according to the school website, sometime late Wednesday evening or early on the following morning of Sept. 20.

Smithtown Officials Seek Garbage Carter to Replace Jody Enterprises

Smithtown Town officials have started the process of finding a new garbage collector to replace Jody Enterprises, after its two employees were arrested and charged for operating a recycling scheme. 

The Town of Smithtown is seeking sealed bids from those interested in providing residential solid waste collection and disposal services to waste districts 5, 6, 8, and 9 - the four of its 10 districts currently serviced by Jody Enterprises.
