The scent of beef and barbeque that floats out of at 12 Indian Head Road, is pretty hard to pass up and I wouldn’t recommend shopping in that area on an empty stomach. If you are anything like me, you will fall under its spell and find yourself chowing down on a burger the size of the Lone Star State. That brings me to the latest installment of The Dish, which will probably inspire me to write a new column called The Gym.
The Dish: The Dixie Burger ($7.95).
What's In the Dish? A half-pound of certified Angus beef served on a sesame bun.
How's It Taste?: If you are hankering for a serious burger your craving will be satisfied here. The burger is flame broiled giving it that great grilled flavor. We went with the classic combination of toppings choosing American cheese and bacon. Toppings are $1.00 extra for each one and include mushrooms, cheese, bacon and chili. The cheese was nicely melted and not too gooey and the bacon was crisp but not over done. It is served with a thick slice of cold, crisp pickle which I found better than the thin, overly dill slices you sometimes get with a burger.
Coleslaw accompanies this dish and it did not disappoint. Crisp and slightly tangy, Dixie’s does this right. I would recommend getting it as a side if it doesn’t come with the meal you choose. Lettuce and tomato are also on the side as additional toppings as well as a hunk of cornbread.
Sides: This burger dish comes with one side, but there are 14 that you can choose from, so it wasn’t easy picking just one. We chose the seasoned waffle fries, which are served in abundance. Other choices include warm homemade applesauce, collard greens, macaroni and cheese and potato in just about any form or flavor. You can add on additional sides for $2.99 each.
Bottom Line: When you are craving an honest to goodness cheeseburger, this is paradise. Go for it.
