St. Catherine's of Siena Earns Special Innovation Award

Hauppauge Industrial Association to Honor Medical Center at Gala.

 

St. Catherine’s of Siena Hospital will be honored at an awards gala for its program in robotic surgery.

The hospital is the first in Suffolk County to offer a multispecialty robotic surgery program. Surgeons there can use the robotic procedures to treat bariatric, colorectal, general, gynecological and urologic conditions.

According to a spokesperson at St. Catherine’s, the hospital will be recognized with a Special Innovation Award from the Hauppauge Industrial Association at its Annual Business Achievement Awards Gala on September 12.

In a statement, St. Catherine’s Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs and Chief Medical Officer Patrick O’Shaughnessy, DO said, “the addition of robotic surgery has transformed the way minimally invasive surgeries are being performed by our physicians, with greater precision through smaller incisions and extraordinary 3-D, HD visualization.”

According to the hospital, the benefits of robotic surgery are faster recovery, less post-surgical pain and a lower risk of complications.
