Event Spotlight: St. Baldrick's at the Park Lounge

The annual fundraising event to end childhood cancer is on for March 24.

The Park Lounge will be holding its fifth annual St. Baldrick's event, a nearly all day affair that brings out local residents who, in the name of finding a cure for childhood cancer, shed their locks to raise money.

Jim Pavese, owner of the Park Lounge, said fundraising is a little lighter than past years, he thinks in part, due to hurricane Sandy and the recent blizzard.

"Things are proceeding well however this is a very tough year for fundraising as Sandy took a toll on people, as did the big snowstorm," said Pavese.  "We are looking to rally in this last week and the shavees and their donors surprise us every year. The shaving will start this Sunday at noon and will go all day until the last head is shaved."

If anyone is interested in donating or shaving their head simply go to www.stbaldricks.com and search for The Park Lounge.

To support some locals in their efforts, here are a few links to some Kings Parkers who are fundraising and participating in this year's event.

I just saw this dog running down sunken meadow rd. on Monday afternoon around 4:45. We tried callingRead More it but it ran into the st. johnland nursing home and wouldn't come to me when I tried calling it over. It looks like a shepherd mix and seems a little frightened.
