Music on Main Street This Summer? Count on It

Organizers finalizing last details for the summer series.

Kings Park residents can look forward to the sweet sound of music on Main Street this summer, as civic organizers get closer to finalizing the details of the weekly music series.

Organizer Carol Kelly said residents can expect a series of six Friday night concerts this summer beginning June 24.

“The music will be family friendly. We hope to draw people into the town to shop and visit the local establishments,” said Kelly.

The event will be called Musical Moments in Kings Park and would be similar to Happenings on Main in Northport where local bands and musicians play while pedestrians shop, dine and enjoy the outdoor entertainment. Musicians will set up in Russ Savatt Park next to Ralph’s Ices.

The Kings Park Civic Association as well as the Chamber of Commerce has agreed to provide the basic funding to get the program started. The funds will be used to buy signs to promote the concerts and if necessary a permit from the town.

“We are looking to see if we need a permit for the event,” said Kelly.

Organizers are asking local bands and musicians who are interested in playing to email kpconcerts2011@gmail.com

Will the Friday night schedule conflict with the Airmid Theater schedule?
Frank Mercuri April 27, 2011 at 11:49 PM

This will be a great summer in Kings Park. With the car shows on Thursday afternoons,Kings Park day, the music on Fridays and the Airmid Theater and carnival ,a number of places to dine. No need to go to the Hamptons. We have it all. Thanks to all who are making Kings Park the place to be and have fun.

Hi Frank. You forgot to mention the farmer's market on Sunday mornings. Kings Park has a very successful car show on Thursday evenings. The concert series and farmer's market will begin right at the time of Kings Park's very first Restaurant Week. The theatre events in the park also add another form of entertainment that our residents can enjoy. The Kings Park Civic Association's beautification committee will be making things look a little nicer around town as well. It should be a great summer in Kings Park!

We don't want to have our concerts conflicting with the Armisted Theatre productions - we are planning concerts for June 24, July 8 and 22, August 5, 19 and 26 - do any of those dates conflict with Armisted? - please let me know - thanks --Carol Kelly

oops checked schedule again there seems to be a conflict based on the shedule mentioned by Carol Kelly. Airmid runs as follows July 27 – Aug. 14, 2011 Wed. – Sat. 7 pm; Sun. 3pm Only 15 performances The 6 concerts listed were assumed that they would be conecutive Fridays beginnin on June 24th
Sean Lehmann April 29, 2011 at 03:40 AM
When and if the concerts happen, I'm sure scheduling will be based on non-conflicting dates.

Just a thought. How about having on Tuesday nights, and Sundays with the Farmers Market? This way it wouldn't conflict with Airmid and brings folks into town on a night they may not normally come out. I believe Northport has Jazz in the Park on Tuesday nights?
Linda Henninger April 29, 2011 at 01:52 PM
Airmid is having 14 shows, I think it is running enough so whoever wants to go to the music on Main and the summer theatre will have ample opportunity to do both.
Frank Mercuri April 29, 2011 at 05:01 PM
14 performances for the 1PM children shows Mon-Fri. 15 for the evening performances as stated
Linda Henninger April 29, 2011 at 05:17 PM
Hi Frank, Yes, you are correct, 15 evening performances. It's really nice there are so many shows, lots of days to choose from, no one has to miss out.
Frank Mercuri April 29, 2011 at 05:56 PM
Hopefully with all the events to take place a lot of gas can be saved for locals and surrounding communities to come and enjoy the summer in Kings Park. What better deal exists than getting entertain for free.

Looks like we have a home of good family, fun, food & entertainment for sure!!! So good to see all comments of a positive outlook on our home town.

I'll skip the Armid shows to see a good live band in town.

This is terrific news! I can't wait for both the Farmer's Market and the concerts. Thanks to the community organizers who have great vision and who are putting in such hard work. Kings Park is a beautiful, quirky town with a rich history. Every time I get to see the sunrise over the Sound at Sunken Meadow State Park or get to kayak on the Nissequogue I realized how blessed I am to live in such a great area. Warts and all, Kings Park is a great town.
