Lauren Lenardi,16, Succumbs to Cancer

Kings Park High School student and soccer player was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2010.

Beloved Kings Park High School student and soccer player, Lauren Lenardi, passed away on Friday. Lenardi was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive form of cancer in December of 2010.

The school and community rallied around the 16-year-old student, holding fundraisers dubbed "Laurenstrong" and "Love for Lauren". Last year the Kings Park High School girls soccer team celebrated Lauren's Sweet 16 birthday on the field with Lauren in a game against West Babylon.

"Lauren is an amazing person with tremendous spirit, optimism, courage, strength and wisdom beyond her years," said girls varsity soccer coach, Bridget Keenan in an email to Patch last year.
