Park still without power, closed since Saturday evening.

Clean up efforts are underway at Sunken Meadow State Park, which has remained closed since Saturday evening.

Reginal Director of State Parks Ronald Foley is uncertain when the park will be open to the public.

“It is all dependent on power. The beach looks great. It is too bad we can’t open,” said Foley.

Park employees said on Tuesday that about 20 downed trees were cleared from the golf courses. Employees have been working since Monday to get the park ready to be opened.

“The biggest mess was on the golf course,” said Foley. The red course was cleaned up as of Tuesday.

Foley hopes to have the park open for the Labor Day weekend, but says it is all dependent on LIPA and power.

“We have been working with LIPA who has been very helpful. We are hopeful that we will be able to open soon,” he said.
