Northport Man Commits Suicide
64-year old man takes his own life after call to police to say he was suicidal.
A Northport man committed suicide after placing a call to police saying he was suicidal and concerned for the welfare of his mother. Suffolk County Homicide is investigating the incident.
The 64-year old man residing at 14 Kalmia Street in East Northport barricaded himself in the home he shared with his mother.
Second Precinct officers along with the Emergency Service Section and the Hostage Negotiation Team responded. Emergency Service officers were able to enter the home approximately three hours after the call was placed.

Police found the man dead in his bed and determined that he committed suicide. Police are not commenting at this time on how the suicide was committed.
