Nominate Kings Park's Greatest Person of 2012

Who in town has made the biggest impact on the community?

Maybe it's a parent, a teacher, a scout leader, a coach. Maybe it's an elected official, a civic association leader, a school board trustee, a village mayor, or other community leader.

In a community such as Kings Park there are undoubtedly plenty of people across town to look up to, and we'd like to recognize those people by asking you to nominate them for our "Greatest Person" honor.

In the coming weeks we'll accept your nominations to name Kings Park's Greatest Person. Community members will later have the chance to vote on the final result.

Submit your nominations as a comment below or email editor Jennifer Sloat to participate at jennifer.sloat@patch.com. Please include your full name and the reason why you have chosen the person your are nominating.

maybe if the award was "most heartless person of 2012" LCDR would win, but greatest? i beg to differ.
lisa December 4, 2012 at 07:17 pm
Well said, I entirely agree! He won my children's heart and my heart too!
Courtney Braun December 5, 2012 at 01:37 am
Mr. Kevin Johnston. What a wonderful man. He leaves an impact on every single person he has ever taught, coached, or even met. I believe that out of all the people in Kings Park Mr.J is the most deserving of this award.
John Smith December 5, 2012 at 01:49 am
I nominate Ms. Jacqueline Kalin. She has done wonders for the community including projects involving environmental conservation, policing our neighborhoods so that drugs and other illegal things can't harm out children, and overall just being a positive face among a crowd of friends, nay, a community of friends. Kalin '13 putting the UNITY back in commUNITY.

Please feel free to nominate your fellow Kings Parkers, but don't knock down another nominee in the process. Comments have been removed from this thread.

Does it have to be an individual person? If it can be multiple... I would like to nominate Kings Park Hardware boys....KP needed a Hardware store badly, and a great group of guys opened one, and they are accommodating as well as pleasant to have in town.
Barbara December 5, 2012 at 04:48 pm
Father Gann is just what St. Joseph's and our community needed - He has my vote.
KP Family December 5, 2012 at 08:07 pm
Definitley Jimmy Pavese.. With the amount of work he has done, such as the St. Baldricks fundraising event to raise money for childhood cancer, I definitely feel he is the perfect candidate, sending a great message to all.. From the town and always giving to people throughout the town-thats who deserves it!!

Sean is always looking out for all the cirizens of Kings Park and to protect our way of life.
Maureen Rossi December 6, 2012 at 09:44 pm
I would nominate Jim Pavese, Mr. Johnson, Kevin Dennis, Fr. Sean, Sean Lehman, Kathlene Lanese who is a regional autism superhero, Dee Grasso who runs the chamber, The KP Education Foundation, every girl scout leader and boy scout leader every coach and every religion teacher! This is an amazing community absolutely brimming with philanthropic hearts! God Bless Everyone and Happy New Year!

This thread is for nominating a fellow Kings Parker, not to rehash details of another news story. We are deleting your comment Rose.
Joyce Marshall December 7, 2012 at 01:39 pm
Christina Spano for her efforts in aiding the Long Island Victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Not specifically greatest person, but I would like to salute Jennifer Sloat, Kings Park Patch, as she has contributed much to our community by keeping us informed of concerns, events, news alerts and issues that concern us all. Thank you Jennifer

The list of people nominated for Kings Park Greatest Person is full of many worthy suggestions. What an amazing town to be blessed with such goodness.

For 2012, I give it to Sean Lehman. He took over the helm of the Kings Park Civic Association untiredly keeps abreast of the goings on in the community conducting meeting and meeting with town leaders on a number of issues given the fact that he has to work for a living and bring up a family. There are many good people in Kings Park that tiredly do community service staying out of the limelight not looking for anything in return. Neighbors helping neighbors, coming to aid of the needy, helping a child learn and so on. Kings Park is a community of giving and sets an example of what a true community spirit is all about and why many wish to live here and those who left came back. Good leaders are hard to come by and Sean a recent Kings parker by some standards is with feeling and passion that he grew up in KP.

I would like to nominate Kevin Denis,he works very hard for our town and never complains about anything he is asked to do.He is always cheerful and happy it makes a for a very pleasant experience

I think we should nominate someone who is not into telling everyone every little thing they do for others..There are those nominated who do just that. Every time you see them they tell you how wonderful they are..Those types don't need to be honored. How about the Kings PArk Fire Department who answers calls both day and night. How about the all those people who opened up the VFW for those who had no electricity after the hurricane. Or the behind the scenes people who work real hard to make KP a better place..The Maureen Rossis, Jim Paveses. Mark O'Briens, the Angels without Faces.so many humble, sincere good people who aren't looking to pump up their own egos...there are a lot of choices out there..
makeadifference December 11, 2012 at 01:34 pm
so very true May let's honor the silent ones

I love all of these suggestions and nominations, Kevin Denis of Professor's Diner would be my top pick. When Mary Ryan passed away this year (she would be my top nominee and I think she should get an honorable mention for being 90, beautiful, and what Kings Park is all about - ask Father Sean who said wonderful things about my Great Aunt at her funeral) Kevin showed up to Aunt Mary's Wake since she was a regular - and you just do not find loyalty like that everywhere.
Melissa Dispigno Macdougall December 11, 2012 at 08:40 pm
Kevin Denis, Mr Kevin Johnston , Sean Lehman
The voice December 12, 2012 at 04:37 am
I say we nominate Jennifer. She works tirelessly to make sure there is no freedom of speach in this forum. If not, I nominate Kevin Denis. The slob who is rud to his staff and customers alike
The voice December 12, 2012 at 04:42 am
Agreed! Call it heartless all you want. I call this intelligence. Maybe if Kings Park parents start paying attention to what is going on and paying attention to their children, maybe Kings Park can start recognizing their real hero's, and not some clown from a diner.
The voice December 12, 2012 at 04:49 am
Really? We want to award a man who is rude to all? Is this what this award is intended to be? Ask any 17 - 18 year old young lady who has worked for him and find out what type of person he really is before you nominate him. Ask his customers.
Yes, go ahead and delete my post, but he still is what he is.
badfish December 13, 2012 at 03:26 am

Mark O'Brien gets our vote !
Maggie Spinelli December 19, 2012 at 02:27 pm
My nominee is a 13 yr old young man named Bryce Cotty. This young man worked day and night in Oceanside N.Y. cleaning debris, pumping out water from homes, just helping in anyway possible, instead of being home warm with electricity. Bryce also was apart of the Sandy relief team at the VFW. It's extremely refreshing to see such a young man so selfless and hard working.
Mary Ann Daniels December 27, 2012 at 08:15 am
I agree a priest . I would vote for him.
