Cops: South Setauket Man Robbed 4 Jewelry Stores

Suffolk County police have arrested a South Setauket man and a Deer Park woman whom they say were responsible for a series of jewelry store thefts in Suffolk over the past month.

Daniel Cimolonski, 32, was charged with four counts of third-degree grand larceny, a felony; fourth-degree grand Larceny, a felony; and criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors. His girlfriend, Kristie Laird, 45, was charged as an accomplice in one of the robberies.

Miller Place Board Adopts Budget Under Cap Without Full-Day Kindergarten

The proposal of full-day kindergarten in the 2013-14 school budget in Miller Place has been a hot topic since first proposed by Superintendent Marianne Higuera. On Wednesday the Board of Education made a decision to adopt a budget without the proposal.

After including kindergarten in the superintendent's budget, the school board listened to varying community views on the topic for about a month before ultimately deciding against it.

"We are all cognizant of the educational merits of doing it, but at this particular time the sustainability issue is just too much for this board to pass," said trustee Michael Unger.

Lawrence Aviation Fire Deemed Arson

An investigation by Brookhaven Town Fire Marshals and Suffolk County Arson Squad has determined that Saturday's fire at the former Lawrence Aviation site was criminal in nature.

No other details were immediately made available, as the investigation remains ongoing.

"I wouldn't go what into caused the fire," said Sgt. George White. "Only two people know that: us, and the person who lit it."

Nesconset Woman Sues County Over Alleged Sexual Abuse At Jail

Suffolk County has been slapped with a new lawsuit involving the Suffolk County Correctional Facility.

According to a Newday report, five women, including one from Nesconset, have filed a federal lawsuit, alleging that they and others were "sexually assaulted, harassed and degraded by a male correction officer" at the facility.
