Meet the Library Candidates: Five Things to Know

Voters can meet the candidates Thursday evening.

Two positions are open on the Smithtown Special Library District Board of Trustees. Here are a few helpful things to know.

 1.     Voters can meet the candidates Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at the Nesconset Branch of the Smithtown Library.

2.     Current Vice President of the board, Anthony Monteleone of Nesconset is running for another term. Rosalind Palazzolo of St. James is vying to win her position as trustee back after she lost re-election to Judy Marlow-Ratway last year. President of volunteer organization, The Friends of the Library, Otis Thornhill of Commack is running for a position as trustee.

3.     The 2012 library budget of $12,649,720 is a 1.2 percent increase over the 2011 budget with an on average increase of about $6.34 per household in library taxes.

4.     Kings Park residents can vote on the budget on Oct. 11 at the Kings Park firehouse if they wish to vote by machine or at any open branch to vote by paper ballot.
