Local War Veteran to Receive Check for $37K

Local resident Larry Noon to be presented with overdue payments at Kings Park Day.

A check of almost $37,500 in overdue disability payments will be presented to Smithtown Marine Corps Veteran Lawrence Noon at Kings Park Day by U.S. Rep. Tim Bishop.

Noon, a Vietnam combat veteran and a 1965 graduate of Kings Park High School enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1968, serving with the 2nd Battalion, 9th Marines. He was wounded in heavy combat after 10 months of service. Noon, a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5796 in Kings Park was awarded the Purple Heart and Navy Commendation for Valor.

Noon, whose  service related injuries include Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, migraine headaches and shrapnel wounds approached Bishops office in the fall of 2010 for assistance in receiving additional benefits. Upon urging, the Veterans Administration resolved the claim and qualified him for additional financial assistance.

Noon’s injuries have resulted in his inability to work.

The retroactive payment of $37,457  will be presented to him at Veteran’s Plaza on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
