Local Scout Earns $1K Scholarship

Kevin Chaves is the recipient of the Best Buy Good Grades and Outstanding Community Service Award.

 

Kings Park High School sophomore, Kevin Chaves, has been awarded the Best Buy Scholarship for Good Grades and Outstanding Community Service.

Chaves, was on of 1,106 students who received the award out of a pool of 165,000.

Recipients are selected based on academic achievement, community involvement and work experience.

Chaves, a Boy Scout with troop 539 in Kings Park, has participated in numerous volunteering projects, most notably his efforts to rebuild the Gerald J. Ryan Outreach Center food pantry which had been destroyed by fire, and earned him the rank of Eagle Scout.

Chaves is also a member of the Kings Park High School Independent Science Research program and a referee for the Kings Park and Northport soccer clubs.
