LIRR Reports 'Good Service' Restored on Port Jefferson Branch

Trains resumed with regularity on Monday morning.

The Long Island Rail Road's Port Jefferson branch is up and running again with "good service," according to reports on its website.

The Port Jefferson Branch has stops at Port Jefferson, Stony Brook, St. James, Smithtown, and Kings Park. The LIRR also made note that those train stations have had their lots cleared for parking.

The LIRR also said in a statement on its website: "Customers are advised to expect some delays and to build in extra travel time. The LIRR expects to run a normal PM rush schedule with no planned cancellations."

On Saturday, the LIRR had halted Port Jefferson line service at Huntington due to weather-related signal problems.

On Monday, Joe Calderone, the LIRR's vice president for customer service, said it was the accumulation of snow and the drifts brought on by the winds that presented the biggest challenge.

"We had to get men, women, and materials on the scene and clear those drifts," Calderone told Patch. "But we have the equipment to deal with that, and we were able to deploy it. ... We were pleased we were able to get service restored for today."

We tried callingRead More it but it ran into the st. johnland nursing home and wouldn't come to me when I tried calling it over. It looks like a shepherd mix and seems a little frightened.
