For those of you who may have missed last year's screening, or just want to see it again, Kings Park, Stories From an American Mental Institution will be screened again in Huntington.
Lucy Winer, a once suicidal teenager who was committed to the Kings Park Psychiatric Hospital is now a veteran documentary filmmaker who was committed in 1967 to the hospital’s female violent ward. Winer documents not only her journey back to the now shuttered facility but also meets with former patients, their families and hospital staff. The film takes an in-depth look at the mental health system today as well as a look back on the treatment of the illness in years past.
