Kings Park Locals Help Disadvantaged Teens Get Red Carpet Ready for Prom

Teen girls have enough to worry about when it comes to prom, starting with getting a date, but they shouldn’t have to worry that they can’t afford to look their best on the big night.  Two Kings Park locals, along with the help of project G.L.A.M are working to help every teen girl rock their look on prom night.

Judy Bishop and Trish Dwyer-Johnston, both of Kings Park, helped organize a donation drive to collect all the prom essentials such as gowns, shoes and accessories and on April 20, young women from neighboring towns will pay a visit to Kings Park High School to “shop” for the big night.

Gown racks, portable dressing rooms, display tables and a red carpet is set to be delivered to the school along with goody bags of makeup, hair products and accessories. Representatives from The Body Shop, Paul Mitchell Beauty School and Ulta will be on hand, to offer styling tips and advice to look red carpet ready.

WGIRLS, a Long Island charity, joined forces with Project G.L.A.M., which works to make prom dreams a reality for underpriviledged teens.  Over 100 gowns have been donated so far and three school custodians will be donating their time on Saturday to help with the event.

Donations of prom gowns are still being accepted. Those wanting to donate can drop them off at Professors Diner or by contacting Judy Bishop or Kim McGinley at Kings Park High School.
