Hey Kings Park, Do You Remember...?

Facebook page asks Long Islanders to remember some long forgotten places in their towns.

A Facebook group called "Hey Long Island... Do U Remember....?" has popped up and is filling up with tons of questions from people all over the Island recalling memories of trends, stores, hangouts, foods and more from the past.

People from Kings Park have also taken to the group to rekindle memories of days past from the area.

Where did people shop before the big box retailers came in?

"Sears or Tanzi's Lumber," said Shawn Graham.

Kings Park State Hospital was noted by many as the scariest place they remember. Some visited for Girl Scout trips and others just found the place creepy.

Have you visited this page? What do you remember about Kings Park- back in the day?

The Kings Park Hospital was always fascinating. I also enjoyed our cross country team practices which ran along the streets before they closed it. The Chris Alben 5k course thru the hospital was excellent.

wasn't that the store that was next to or down the block from the church on Main Street and Church Street/Pulaski Road? And when the post office was located on Main Street (near the current laundromat) in the center of town?

How about Ben Franklins instead of TJ Max? You could find everything there! (and have the kids pictures taken for special holidays)

The orig. Bohack was a little store in the brick building next to Subway. I think now it is a dance studio. When they built Bohacks it had a house there and they moved it around the corner on Collins Ave. Also the little store on the end of Bohacks was the orig. Park Bakery. By the way, the Asst manager of the orig. Bohacks was Eddy Ready who became the Manager of the new Bohacks.

We moved to Kings Park from North Carolina in 1949..I know Mel's was there in the 50's because I washed dishes in Mr. McWilliams' Park Diner on the corner of Main and Renwick. My guess the Post Office moved to Main St late 50's and Mel's moved across the street next to Joe Sauer's Meat Market. I enlisted in the Navy 1957 and kinda lost track of the changes in Kings Park

I remember the first housing project. The Miller homes down around 8th Ave. They were expensive too, $9,999.00. Then there was Country Village just passed the High School on the Nowick potato farm. They were VERY expensive, $13,999.00. Also along 25a where the Post Office, High School, Etc was State property that was farm land. The Kings Park Library is built on State property. At that spot was the head farmers house.

And when you drove down Old Dock Rd. there were cows in the pasture on the right hand side.
